Plan, Share, Create, Grow

“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face” (Mike Tyson). Troubles and set-backs can and do happen, but without a plan in place, failing is the plan. Knowing God’s plan trumps mine grants me peace to keep on keeping on.

“It’s better to have a bruised ego, than a lifetime of regret” (Author unknown). Going against the grain, breaking the mold, creating a path when none exists, offering possible life-giving services, is courage at its best. Go for it—help others. Live out your dreams!

Sharing messages of hope only takes willingness. Being bold and brave entails showing up and doing something to help others, despite possible criticism or embarrassment. Why not share a story of direct or indirect triumph to encourage and inspire others through challenging times? Lighten the burden of others via your personal story of victory. Transformation occurs from the inside out, which can be activated by an inspiring true experience and a spark of encouragement. Stay humble, letting go of an over-sized ego. Don’t waste hurt, trials, and burdens overcome. Share them with the world so others can benefit, knowing they are not alone in their pain and heartache. Strive to be a better person.

Defeating Anxiety

Any anticipatory anxiety or fear of future events can be mitigated and abated by facing them bravely, head on. For example, rather than trying to avoid making a specific mistake during a speech, go out and try to create this blunder and it probably won’t happen. At least instead of worrying about a future slip up, which likely will not occur, you can now rest peacefully, living fully, today. Practicing this strategy for most worries may just lead to no more foreboding. Additionally, stop looking at storms of yesterdays in the rear view mirror, lest depression set in, stealing moments, hours, days, months and possibly years, which otherwise could be abundant joy and laughter. The past is gone—it will never return, the future is full of glorious wonders, and the moment is tranquility, love, and peace because you choose it so.  

Dopamine

Major neurotransmitters and hormones that create positive or negative effects on us include dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, oxytocin, cortisol, and epinephrine. Dopamine aids in concentration, motivation, and is responsible for our reward feedback loop. Dopamine is released in response to eating, consuming caffeine and sugar, gambling, pornography, sex, alcohol, shopping, smoking cigarettes and consuming other nicotine releasing substances, illicit stimulants, and various things that feel good to us. Dopamine releasing behaviors done carelessly or irresponsibly can give us a temporary state of feeling good, thus the rewarding response facilitates cyclical repetitive behavioral patterns. In the long run, poor behaviors have the potential to wreak havoc on ourselves and everyone around us. Alternatively, healthy ways to elevate the neurotransmitter dopamine include physical activity, meditation, sunlight, hobbies, music, love-making, massage, and other enjoyable and beneficial activities. What beneficial modalities are you incorporating each day to increase dopamine in your life? What nonproductive activities and habits can be eradicated and replaced with productive responsible routines?

Build Self-Confidence

“Be like a promontory against which the waves continually break, but it stands firm and tames the fury of the water around it” (Marcus Aurelius). You are stronger and braver than you think. Create an intangible moat built of self-confidence, mental toughness, and fortitude, which surrounds your castle that is impenetrable to enemy forces. Focus on small daily rituals that prime self-confidence and positive lingering moods through small incremental wins leading to colossal victory.
