“You can get a lot farther with a kind word and a gun than a kind word alone” (Al Capone). If a gun was held to your head or that of a family member and you were told you must stop a bad habit to prevent death, you could do it. That is called intrinsic motivation. We don’t want to coerce anyone, although we must sell ourselves in order to achieve our dreams. Desire the acquisition of dreams come true as badly as you crave the air you breathe. Dare to be original by being good and principled, while upholding steadfast concrete moral values and associate with people that sustain and reciprocate the like.
“The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but has no vision” (Helen Keller). Look for the good in people and ourselves, while desiring more abundance of health, wealth, love, and joy upon others. As an American author and speaker, Helen Keller became deaf and blind by 19 months of age and mute shortly thereafter because of a debilitating fever, yet she did not let that stop her from maintaining her vision and regaining her voice.¹¹ She was the first deaf and blind person to earn her Bachelor’s degree, in addition earning cum laude.¹² Helen Keller is a true inspiration to the world and a wonderful example for people with similar ailments. Now, people that are deaf and blind have infinitely more hope, knowing that success and true quality of living are possible through pure determination and unwavering faith. Many people acquiring various ailments and problems will not be the first nor the last, yet triumph through with resilience, courage, and a positive mental attitude. Don’t let negativity or seemingly unjust circumstances rob hope, joy, and love from your precious life.
Disciplining our children is what we do for them through love, not to them as punishment. Children may fuss and complain now about not being able to stay out late, while other kids are doing it. American author and motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, and other successful parents advocate to be enthusiastic and have an exciting home so other children desire to play there. Zig did this so he could see who his children were hanging out with and know what they were up to. Zig’s positive role modeling toward authentically being morally upright and doing good deeds, more so than just talking, allowed others to imitate that goodness observed.⁷ Walking the walk is much more influential and inspiring than only talking the talk. When our children become older, while not acquiring poor habits or succumbing to bad influences or harmful temptations, they will be grateful indeed. Don’t act or talk like someone you admire—be that person.
Moreover, teach kids they can accomplish incredible feats by removing the ‘t’ in can’t. Show them how to live by living and being the example. Teaching good money, moral, spiritual, relational, principal, health, and character habits will vastly improve long-term quality of life. No better instruction exists than children observing your consistent healthy, positive habits and lifestyle. Your kids will thank you for it, even if they don’t appreciate or know it yet.
“Who is strong? He that can conquer his bad habits. Each year one vicious habit rooted out, in time might make the worst man good throughout” (Benjamin Franklin). It’s not likely long-term, or healthy, to keep personal and professional lives separate. Eventually, the inconsistency will show up, resulting in ill health or failed compromise. People can turn from crime, becoming productive law-abiding citizens. Every moment of each new day, we all have the power, opportunity, and privilege to choose good over evil. Use the law of replacing bad habits with good habits. Self-restraint only takes one so far, therefore make and place healthy habits on autopilot. Triumphant victory belongs to you and me!
“You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail” (Proverbs 19:21 NLT). Don’t steal from your future just to make today easier. Discipline yourself to invest in health, wealth, and relationships, while choosing to love, learn, grow, and live your purpose. Focus on living out your principles. Bumps in the road will come, although principles remain unchanging, thus impenetrable to enemy forces. Keep on doing the right thing, despite others’ opinions and small judgmental minds. This way of living leads to personal significance and fulfillment. Raise your standards. Be you, not someone else. Don’t chase after someone else’s worldly dreams, fixated on fame, power, or excessive possessions. What gives you peace and makes you happy? You owe yourself the best of you—all of you. Be unapologetically you.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to wake up each morning full of energy, gratitude, fulfillment, and financial freedom, while hanging out at the beach, surfing or scuba diving, going to the mountains to climb or hike, traveling the world, and living out the life you truly want and are able to live automatically with little effort exerted? You deserve and owe it to yourself to live the very best life possible. You were made for greatness, therefore it’s practically sinful to selfishly hold blessings of extreme and far-reaching magnitude and remarkable value for yourself by not sharing them with the world.
“It is extraordinary how extraordinary the ordinary person is” (George F. Will). We all possess opportunity and potential to be extraordinarily boundless and free. Let’s create opportunity by harnessing the privilege toward becoming the best version of ourselves. With freedom comes responsibility, producing high probabilities for a wonderful life, given you choose to be free. Let’s maximize our ups and minimize the down times. Living with aliveness, excitement, adventure, and vigor is fully attainable for each of us, today, tomorrow, and always.
Serotonin can enhance mood, memory, and intentionally positive behaviors, among other beneficial responses. Serotonin may be more available when we obtain recognition, praise, inspiration, motivation, exercise, healthy food, sunlight, and by taking certain antidepressant medication. If we constantly have negative self-talk, antidepressant medication and exercise will not bring us out of diminishing energy levels, poor moods, and feelings of not being fulfilled until the underlying thoughts, attitudes, and self-limiting beliefs are remedied. Choosing positive thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and environments will change your life. Somebody else is not responsible for your happiness. Thinking that someone else can create your long-term happiness is an erroneous, futile, and impossible feat. Get off that slippery slope before falling into icy waters, which will freeze an already cold and hardened heart. Only you hold the key to true lasting joy, peace, and happiness. Shred or delete your façade and discard. Transform through becoming love.
We can control our conscious mind, therefore reprogramming our subconscious mind. The conditioning we received into our subconscious mind from our parents, relatives, teachers and other environmental factors while growing up can be altered and improved upon. Our breathing is automatic, yet we can consciously control breathing, thus change our mood and how we feel. The same holds true to our automatic subconscious mind in relation to our conscious mind. Don’t allow circumstances to control you—rather, make opportunities out of discomfort through self-control, hard work, and constant and never ending improvement, thus leading to self-mastery.
