“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7 NIV). Develop an insatiable hunger toward going after your transparent desires with an unstoppable, unyielding, relentless, determined, and courageous tenacity for results. Indeed, it is true that we get what we tolerate in life, as well as receive our genuine, honest, clear, and must have desires by asking, planning, doing, and becoming.
We must give to get and receive to give. Energy expended during exercise can give back and generate more energy in return. The goal is to be consistent, persistent, determined, dedicated, and self-disciplined. Consuming healthy fuel and eliminating negative zapping energy are critical steps toward enhancing this give to get strategy.
“Know the true value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination: never put off till tomorrow what you can do today” (Philip Dormer Stanhope, Lord Chesterfield). Procrastination and slothfulness contribute to our own expedited accountable demise. Hasten each moment toward growing healthier, wiser, smarter, wealthier, kinder, and better in all goodness that life has to offer. Let’s take care of ourselves being health gives meaning and purpose to everything else in life.
Whether we exercise to feel amazing, look incredible, lose weight, tone muscles, bulk up, build strength, generate a peak mental state, enhance endurance or agility, getting started is key. Focusing on the defined objective with a crystal clear vision is crucial toward success. Create the end result in your mind as a precursor to planning and doing. Contradictory to that aforementioned statement, just starting is crucial as well. Begin executing and let your mind catch up later.
As Tony Robbins advocates, “Turn your shoulds into musts and stop shoulding all over yourself.”⁸ Write down specific plans encompassing nutritional and caloric demands, aerobic initiation and culmination periods relative to anaerobic exercise sessions, durations, intensity; anaerobic exercises, strategies, sets, repetitions (reps), rest intervals between sets, and exercise groups worked during each session. Daily, doing calisthenics (using our own body weight), performing a few abdominal crunches, push-ups, walking briskly or jogging a block is all it takes to turn something we should do into action, which, in time, can produce a subconscious or automatic ritual.
“I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times” (Bruce Lee). Purposeful activity and performing a minimum of five or ten reps each day is pivotal toward successful habit formation. That daily consistency and self-discipline truly will deliver amazing results forming the life most people only dream about.
Initially, more or less repetitions, heavier or lighter weights, varying sets and rest intervals, longer walks, jogs or bicycle rides may ensue depending upon where you are starting from. Building on and growing from your first action can help motivate you to achieve the fitness goals you desire because progress generates additional momentum that helps cultivate our lives. That first step forward is often the most challenging, therefore think less and do more.
Once a training regimen is underway, concentrate on positive thoughts backed with action, while striving to obtain more beneficial outcomes. Truly, practice writing aerobic activity durations and intensity, along with specific exercises, amounts of sets, reps, rest intervals, and weight lifted during every work out down on paper or using an app to observe and track progress. Being aware of improvement delivers additional motivation. Forward impetus produces growth that creates more self-confidence and inspiration, which cyclically repeats itself.
Whatever comes forth from your mouth defines what is inside you. To change what comes out of you, first change what goes in and remains on the inside. Tensions arise, yet we can control ourselves, not everything in our external environment. Choose to be kind and loving toward someone offensive. Look at all people, things, and circumstances as blessings to learn from, appreciate, and grow. Choose love and gratitude, over judging and criticizing others. It is what we give which we get, are, and become more of, therefore be those things you want without beating yourself up for mistakes. Learn, forgive yourself, and move on with new choices regarding who you want to be and be that person. It’s a wonderful blessing being able to become who we choose.
“Lord, grant that I may always desire more than I can accomplish” (Michelangelo). Don’t’ limit God’s abilities based on your lack. Placing trust in God allows a person to know that God is greater than any fear. Rise above your emotions, intentionally investing in others. We must put our priorities in check, while respecting ourselves, so we can live grander, do better, and give more.
Reward healthy behaviors to reinforce specific actions that generate productive and effective results. The outcomes can be incentive in itself, therefore creating repetition, leading to habit formation. Ask yourself, “What can I do right now to better take care of myself and others?” Too many choices create confusion, complicating decisions, thus leading to paralysis by analysis. Focus on a need and fill it. Don’t think too much. Just do it!
“You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail” (Proverbs 19:21 NLT). Don’t steal from your future just to make today easier. Discipline yourself to invest in health, wealth, and relationships, while choosing to love, learn, grow, and live your purpose. Focus on living out your principles. Bumps in the road will come, although principles remain unchanging, thus impenetrable to enemy forces. Keep on doing the right thing, despite others’ opinions and small judgmental minds. This way of living leads to personal significance and fulfillment. Raise your standards. Be you, not someone else. Don’t chase after someone else’s worldly dreams, fixated on fame, power, or excessive possessions. What gives you peace and makes you happy? You owe yourself the best of you—all of you. Be unapologetically you.
Live according to the serenity prayer, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference” (Reinhold Niebuhr). Similar to muscles growing with weights, some tension is required to grow spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally, and relationally too. Be grateful for opportunities to become better in each realm of life. Look toward tension as an opportunity to become a better version of yourself. When there is tension in life, know this depicts we are alive, able to feel and grow. Furthermore, we are responsible for controlling the controllable aspects of hormones and neurotransmitters that generate positive responses and disregarding anything outside our control. Don’t focus on perfection, only diligent effort toward aspiring to be extraordinary by doing and giving your best. Ask yourself, “Am I giving myself and others the best of me? What can I do to love myself and others better, today, and each day forward?”
We each have the same amount of time each day to live our lives. Remember, it’s not about managing time, only deciding what to do with this time by managing ourselves. Our priorities don’t lie being we ultimately do what we care about most. When it comes to values, beliefs, principles, and boundaries, look toward actions, not words.
Be brave enough to try new things, go new places, form new relationships, and forgive—letting go completely, while loving more deeply. We can learn much by doing, instead of passively sitting on the side lines of life, becoming more futilely dependent upon others for our happiness and everyday personal responsibilities. Passive dependent personality disorder is not uncommon. The character flaws can be remedied through acknowledging they exist.
Awareness is the first step in all healing. Let’s take responsibility for our own lives, not enabling others’ dependence, only encouraging autonomous greatness from within—by doing and believing our part. Acts of service for others are wonderful modalities toward remedying fretful maladies, in turn, becoming more grateful through the process. Live free from anxiety and worry—enjoying who you are and what you have. Think not of lack or deleterious envy, only abundance of blessings in your life.
Let freedom manifest through responsible and consistent self-discipline, while thinking and behaving coherently with personal truths. Becoming aware of possible bias or prejudice in beliefs is a paramount step toward uncovering subconscious and conscious realities. This recognition and acceptance allows change from the inside out. External variables and other people’s opinions no longer hold personal feelings as slaves. Unleash victim mentalities by consciously delving into the realms of who you are, what you desire to change, and who you want to be. What’s holding you back?
“To teach is to learn twice” (Joseph Joubert). We grow as we learn and we learn as we grow. We learn as we teach and we teach as we learn. Teaching helps increase our own comprehension about a subject, fortifying the knowledge in our minds, like a sculptor etches together a marble statue. Every cut is important, yet the sum total creates the masterpiece. Assimilate vast knowledge, intellectually and from experiences, into all-encompassing growing understandings. New individually acquired information becomes hardwired through repetition of thought, doing, and subsequently being. We can even think and be by harmoniously thinking and feeling what we desire. Remember what the Bible depicts in Proverbs 23, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Let’s continue developing and passing our torches of greatness so others can see brighter light as we become encapsulated in the infinite glow of health, wealth, love, and joyfulness.
